Apple Reduces AI Spending for Engineering Teams
Apple is reportedly reducing the daily budget for its engineering teams’ AI usage, according to a report by Bloomberg. This marks a significant shift for a company that has been integrating AI technology into its engineering processes.
In October, Apple lowered the daily spending cap from $300 to $200. Sources indicate that further cuts are planned, with some allowances potentially dropping to $100 a day. Additionally, outside of engineering, Apple is considering a daily limit as low as $25.
TechCrunch has reached out to Apple for a comment on these changes.
This budget reduction follows a trend earlier this year where companies encouraged extensive AI usage among staff to achieve efficiency gains. However, as costs for AI usage became apparent, many organizations, including Apple, are now opting for more fiscally responsible approaches.
Concerns remain about the disparity between the costs associated with developing and operating AI technologies and the unclear productivity gains they are expected to deliver.
