Coolpad Launches First Wide Smartphone, the Cool X Wide, in China

The Coolpad Cool X Wide, claimed to be the first wide smartphone on the Android platform, has officially launched in China. The device was initially announced with pre-orders starting on October 20.
The base model features 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, priced at 999 yuan (approximately $150). Other configurations include an 8GB + 256GB variant for 1,199 yuan (around $180) and a 12GB + 256GB option for 1,399 yuan (about $209).
In terms of specifications, the Cool X Wide boasts a 6.38-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 720 x 1158 pixels. Although the resolution is relatively low compared to many Full HD displays, it offers a refresh rate of 90 Hz, which enhances video and gaming experiences.
The phone measures 150.3 x 94.5 x 8.95 mm and weighs approximately 209 grams, making it wider than most smartphones currently available.
Powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, the Cool X Wide runs on Android 16. However, it is important to note that the Helio G99 is a 4G chipset, meaning the device does not support 5G connectivity.
Accompanying the processor is LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, with the highest model offering 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Additionally, the phone includes a TF card slot for expandable storage of up to 256GB.
The device is equipped with a 4,600mAh battery and features a 50-megapixel rear camera, complemented by an LED flash within a horizontal camera module. It also supports dual SIM dual standby functionality.
Currently, Coolpad has not announced any plans for a release outside of China, and the listed prices are applicable only within the Chinese market.
