OpenAI Maintains ChatGPT Pro Usage Limits Amid User Backlash

OpenAI has announced that it will not reduce the usage limits for its ChatGPT Pro plans, which include the $100, $200, and $500 tiers, as well as the Business Premium plan. This decision comes after user backlash against a proposed 50% cut in usage allowances.

Tibo, the public face of ChatGPT and Codex, confirmed the changes on X, stating that the updates take effect immediately. The adjustments primarily impact ChatGPT Work and Codex, which share usage allowances under eligible subscriptions.

Previously, OpenAI had intended to lower the usage allowance for existing Pro 200 subscribers after October 29, while maintaining the subscription price at $200 per month. However, following customer feedback, the company reversed this decision.

“We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today,” Tibo stated on X. He added, “We heard your kind feedback and won’t be reducing usage limits for Pro 200, so your Work and Codex usage will stay the same.”

Extended Limits for Dots

In addition to the subscription changes, OpenAI will continue to offer extended usage limits for Dots, its always-on AI assistants. The company clarified that usage of Dots will remain separate from the default usage limits.

While OpenAI has not disclosed specific numerical usage limits for each tier, the changes are designed to provide Pro subscribers with greater flexibility in using Work and Codex without the need for a more expensive subscription.
