Reports of Screen Issues Emerge for Apple’s New Foldable iPhone Duo

Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, went on sale on October 23, and several users have reported issues with the inner display. Complaints began surfacing on Reddit and X within hours of the launch.
Many reports describe similar problems: a crack or a bright line of dead or bright pixels appearing along the fold, near the hinge. One user from Australia shared that after just six hours of ownership and fewer than 20 openings, they heard a crack while demonstrating the phone to a friend. The display subsequently split along the fold, despite no visible damage to the screen or hinge.
Photos of similar issues have also emerged from China, where the Duo was released slightly earlier. Some images appear to be from demo units that have been handled extensively, making it difficult to ascertain the cause of the damage. Early reviewers who tested their devices by folding them multiple times have not reported the same problems, although their sample size is limited.
It remains too early to determine how widespread these issues are. Some initial problems are expected with first-generation foldable devices. The crucial aspect will be whether affected users can have their devices repaired or replaced at no cost. As of now, Apple has not made any public statements regarding the situation.
If the device fails during normal usage, it should be covered by the standard one-year warranty. Customers who purchased the phone on launch day also have a two-week return window. However, outside of these options, an out-of-warranty replacement for the inner display is priced at $999, which could lead to significant costs for those without AppleCare+ if issues arise later.
