YouTube Tests Relocating Dislike Button to Submenu

YouTube is reportedly testing a change that moves the dislike button to a submenu, according to a report by 9to5Google. Users on X have shared screenshots showing the dislike button now placed within the three-dots menu, while a Reddit user has posted an image indicating that the dislike button is completely absent for them.

Currently, the dislike button appears next to the like button beneath videos. Relocating it to a submenu could significantly decrease its accessibility, potentially leading to fewer users engaging with it.

One user expressed frustration on X, stating, “YouTube keeps on getting worse… First the dislike counter got removed, then the button got removed on YouTube Shorts, now the dislike button on regular YouTube videos has been moved to a menu.”

The extent of this test and how widely it may be implemented remains unclear, as Google has not yet responded to requests for comment.

YouTube has previously shown a willingness to modify the dislike feature. In 2021, the platform hid the public dislike count to help protect creators from harassment, although creators can still view dislike counts. Earlier this year, the dislike button was removed from YouTube Shorts, with users encouraged to utilize options available in the three-dots menu instead.
