GitHub Unveils Vision for Comprehensive Software Delivery System at Universe 2026

29 October 2026 4 min read هدهد تك | Hudhud Tech

Developers’ roles are evolving, shifting from writing every line of code to collaborating with AI assistants and managing fleets of agents. The focus remains on delivering completed software work, whether it’s a feature, bug fix, or security update.

At GitHub Universe on October 28, GitHub revealed its vision for a comprehensive software delivery system. The company introduced new products designed to realize this vision and discussed the infrastructure improvements that support it.

Our Vision: From Idea to Completed Software

The software development lifecycle (SDLC) is no longer a linear process from planning to coding to testing to deployment. Changes in code, requests from colleagues, or production metrics can initiate work at any point in the system. Developers and their agents navigate through various stages based on the task at hand, with developers setting direction and making decisions while agents implement and verify changes. This process feeds into a continuous learning machine that enhances future cycles.

This agentic software delivery system addresses three key areas:

  • Velocity: Achieve rapid and efficient software delivery.
  • Intelligence: Utilize a continuous learning engine to improve the system’s performance over time.
  • Quality: Ensure security by default and catch bugs before deployment.

GitHub is designed for developers and their agents, with underlying primitives available for creating tailored solutions, allowing control over work, tools, and costs.

New Features and Products That Move the Work Forward

During the event, GitHub showcased several new products and features, starting with the GitHub Copilot app.

GitHub Copilot App: From Issue to Merge, in One App

The GitHub Copilot app is built for agentic software delivery, connecting agents and tools across projects to streamline work without requiring multiple handoffs. It supports various tasks, including writing specifications, discussing designs, and analyzing telemetry.

Copilot Fusion: Multi-Model Orchestration at Its Finest

Different tasks require different models, and developers shouldn’t have to manage every model choice. Copilot Fusion assesses task needs across reasoning, code generation, debugging, and tool usage, selecting the best execution method across multiple models. In the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, Fusion Max scored close to Opus 5.5 Max at half the cost and 40% less time per task.

Copilot Projects: Give Copilot a Goal

Available in the GitHub Copilot app, Copilot projects allow users to manage agent work across multiple repositories in parallel sessions, providing a single location to track progress and make decisions.

Session Continuity: Keep Working Across Surfaces

Work should not restart when switching devices or tools. Session continuity enables users to maintain the same cloud agent session across various platforms, allowing seamless transitions between devices.

Copilot Automations: Learning from the Results

Copilot automations facilitate AI-powered workflows within repositories, responding to events or running on schedules, and learning from their outcomes to propose improvements.

Copilot Code Review Max: A Deeper Look at What Ships

With increased code volume comes a higher demand for reviews. The new Copilot code review Max identifies significant bugs that developers need to address, achieving the highest F1 score on ReviewBench for high-severity issues.

Copilot Features Without a Separate Enterprise Subscription

Starting today, GitHub Enterprise customers can access all Copilot features without a separate subscription, paying only for AI credits used. This is available through GitHub Sales, with self-service options coming soon.

Our Continued Infrastructure Investments

These advancements rely on a fast, reliable, and scalable foundation. GitHub has added:

  • 4 million CPU cores
  • 160 PB of high-speed storage
  • 50 Tb/s network capacity

The company is migrating to a multi-region deployment in Azure, aiming for completion early next year. These investments provide room for growth and support the development of systems that manage the work.

GitHub has scaled its infrastructure to accommodate increased activity, with new principles guiding its architecture: simplifying primitives, decoupling storage from compute, and minimizing coordination.

Beyond the First 1%

As developers’ roles evolve, their importance remains paramount. The software created to date may represent less than 1% of what will be developed in the next five years. The focus is on solving previously unsolvable problems.

GitHub aims to connect the full software delivery system, enhancing collaboration between developers and agents while evolving the infrastructure for future challenges.
