A DIY AI Tamagotchi: Muse Charm Built Before Meta’s Release

Sean Hollister has developed his own version of the Muse Charm, an AI gadget, before Meta could release its official product. While Meta’s version features a cute design and advanced technology, Hollister’s DIY version cost only $50.
The Muse Charm from Meta is designed to be a portable AI companion, allowing users to interact with it similarly to a Tamagotchi. However, Hollister’s creation, which utilizes the Waveshare ESP32-S3 1.75C touchscreen computer, also offers functionality as a pocket watch and a remote camera viewfinder.
Although Hollister’s version lacks some of the advanced features found in Meta’s Muse Charm, such as cameras and cellular connectivity, it is compatible with Meta’s Muse AI cloud, allowing for interaction through voice commands.
Hollister’s experience began when he purchased the Waveshare device and set it up by connecting it to his PC and the Muse phone app. Initially, the device misinterpreted commands as audio clips for transcription, but with adjustments, it became functional.
As Meta prepares to market its Muse Charm this holiday season, Hollister’s DIY project highlights the potential for users to create their own AI gadgets using available technology.
