Grok Unveils Seven Minutes of AI-Generated ‘Odyssey’

Grok has published the first seven minutes of its AI-generated adaptation of ‘The Odyssey,’ following Elon Musk’s announcement three months prior that the company would create a full-length, “historically accurate” film version of the classic tale. This initial release is now referred to as “Episode 1 of our Odyssey series.”

Musk previously criticized Christopher Nolan’s version of ‘The Odyssey’ for its casting choices, which included nonwhite and transgender actors. Nolan’s adaptation, released in July, was noted for its practical filmmaking approach, involving a large cast and crew across six countries, and became a box office success, selling out IMAX screenings for months.

In contrast, Grok’s version, created in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, has drawn mixed reactions. While some moments appear more visually appealing than expected, the overall impression is that it lacks depth and creativity. The characters are portrayed with Musk-approved skin tones, and the narration features a familiar British accent reminiscent of fantasy video games.

The footage has been criticized for its lack of artistry and emotional engagement. The voiceover delivers an extensive backstory, leading to a series of stilted performances that fail to captivate the audience. Viewers may find themselves disengaged, as the pacing and delivery do not evoke the same interest as Nolan’s nearly three-hour version.

Overall, the initial seven minutes of Grok’s adaptation may not inspire confidence in a full-length film, leaving viewers questioning the potential of the project.
