Apple CEO John Ternus recently defended the company’s strategy in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector during an interview with Wired’s Steven Levy. Ternus, who took over as CEO in September, addressed perceptions that Apple has fallen behind in AI, particularly following the delayed launch of an upgraded version of Siri this summer.

While acknowledging that opinions on AI vary, Ternus expressed satisfaction with Apple’s current position, stating, “I really like where we’re at.” He emphasized that Apple plans to leverage AI in its upcoming products but clarified, “We don’t want to ship AI for AI’s sake.” According to Ternus, the goal is to create products that users love, regardless of whether AI is involved.

When asked about the potential for AI to significantly impact Apple’s ecosystem, Ternus noted that while AI could simplify certain tasks, the creation of products remains a deeply human endeavor. He remarked, “The creation of products is a deeply human and personal thing, something that we love to do.”
