OpenAI has expanded its ChatGPT advertising service to 26 more countries, increasing the total to 89. The company reported that over 100,000 advertisers have utilized the platform since its launch just over eight months ago.

The expansion was announced in a blog post on October 21, 2026. The new markets include 14 Latin American countries such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. Ads are also being introduced in Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, as well as additional European markets. In August, OpenAI had already introduced ads to 31 European countries.

Currently, ads are visible only to users on ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans, while Plus, Pro, and Enterprise subscriptions remain ad-free. Advertisers can purchase ad placements through technology partners or directly via OpenAI’s Ads Manager.

OpenAI stated, “Ads in ChatGPT are clearly labeled and separate from ChatGPT’s answers, and advertising does not influence the answers ChatGPT provides.” The company emphasized that it keeps user conversations private from advertisers and does not sell customer data. Future plans include introducing more ad formats, purchasing options, and methods for measuring ad performance. OpenAI is also exploring new ways for businesses to engage users within ChatGPT, having recently begun testing Sponsored Agents with select U.S. advertisers.

As of August, OpenAI’s advertising business achieved an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion, a significant increase from $100 million in March, according to a report by Ashley Capoot for CNBC. Rival company Anthropic featured OpenAI’s ads in its first Super Bowl campaign in February, while pledging to keep its own chatbot, Claude, ad-free.

OpenAI is actively developing its advertising business in anticipation of a potential stock market listing, with executives indicating a possible listing in 2027, as reported by CNBC.
